Roundup: Shearing an Island Flock
(click on pix for blowups)
Jake Galle and Susan Mills collaborated on an installation and
show at the Town Hall in July. Jake had done a photo essay on
the shearing of an island flock in 1998, and Susan has been making
mythic objects out of felted wool for some years. Together they
created an environment redolant of the barnyard in which they
displayed Jake's photographic prints and Susan's magical works.
Susan installed elements from her theater sets, on the hall stage,
and on the floor.
While Jake nailed prints to fence posts, and hung framed images
around the walls.
The effect was stunning. Unfortunately the show could only stay
up for 6 days, and these few images hardly do it justice. But
here are some samples from another art moment in Bowdoinham.
